In out town it was a hive of activity as people went shopping for various grocery items for the lovely Easter holiday. One of the interesting things which came to my attention was that there were long ques at banks early in the morning and at lunch hour there were long ques at the various food outlets. Most of the people were busy buying the fast foods which are really lovely for a bite , especially after some days.
However, over the years studies have shown that fast foods are not healthy because they are high in fat and sugars which often cause the following diseases and in turn reduce life expectancy:
1. Obesity, which is a condition of excess body fat;
2. Liver damage; and
3. Cholesterol that can clog the arteries, increasing the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
Apart from the above diseases, fast foods have a huge negative impact on the environment we live in. This is a subject we shall look at in great detail at some stage.
Given the disadvantages of fast foods as noted above, what shall we eat to live healthy and increase our life expectancy, for God says the years of man are three score but by reason of strength they can be four score. In Africa and may other parts of the world, the life expectancy has decreased significantly due to diseases that arise from the fast foods we eat and other diseases such as HIV and Aids. This can not go unchecked. However, there is need for a transformation in they way we eat and live on a daily basis.
The best alternative eating route which is even recommended by God is organic eating. This is demonstrated in the following scriptures:
Genesis 2v9, Which says “And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil” So trees yield good food. In addition, it has been scientifically proven that trees provide us with the oxygen that we need and they absorb the carbon-dioxide that is released from our bodies.
Daniel 1; Daniel and the team appeared before the King after days of eating vegetables and they appeared stronger and healthier than the counterparts who ate meat.
I was a meat monger who loved his beef and chicken, including the fast foods. My body however started to increase in weght to obese levels. When I visited the doctor for my usual check up I was warned that I needed to reduce my body weight. There are two strategies which I used to reduce my body weight from the obese levels and these are as follows:
1. I moved away from my meat zone into the organic food items; and
2. I exercised.
I know that there are some of us who do not want to hear the word vegetables or organic foods. They need rice and chicken every day and if not, then fast foods. This is fine if they are consumed occasionally or when your bodies are not obese. However we should understand that there are a variety of vegetables which we can enjoy without even thinking about beef and chicken like I used to do.
I turned my obese body in a period of one month through eating organic foods coupled with some little exercise. In my future discussions, I would like to share the various types of organic foods, whether raw or cooked, and recipes for the cooked ones. This will fascinate a number of us who think that organic foods are wrapped up in green vegetables only and nothing else.
